Counterfeit Durex extra safe condoms being sold in the UK
It has been brought to our attention that a small quantity of counterfeit
Durex extra safe condoms has been sold in the UK.
Complaints have been received from consumers regarding what were
believed to be Durex extra safe three-packs. Analysis at our research
laboratories has shown these are fake Durex condoms. To date, these
have been found in London only.
The fakes can be identified by a code printed on the base of the box, on the
right hand side. This is: 20604354. They may also have a fruity smell, appear
dry and there could be dots on the condoms themselves.
PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THESE ARE NOT DUREX CONDOMS
The box is likely to be an illegal copy of genuine condoms distributed more
than a year ago. The last of the genuine batch was distributed to retailers
by Durex in May 2005, so any packs carrying the number 20604354
still in circulation are likely to be counterfeit.
Durex and the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA)
advise not to use condoms which could be counterfeit. If you have already
used condoms you believe are not genuine Durex, you should consult your
local pharmacy, general practitioner, GUM or family planning clinic.
Durex is committed to quality and maintaining the health and safety of
its customers. Counterfeiting is rare, but it is an issue that many leading
consumer brands face. Durex takes counterfeiting very seriously and is
working with MHRA to ensure people are made aware of this fake product,
which does not meet the rigorous standards as Durex condoms.
If you have any queries concerning the matter please contact the Durex
